Our student-focused approach to teaching is validated by our excellent results in National Student Surveys. A research-led Department All academic staff are active in internationally recognised scientific research across a wide range of topics in the Mathematical Sciences. The Mathematics Research Institute brings together our internationally leading research in Applied Mathematics (which was rated 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise) with high quality work in Pure Mathematics and Statistics. We have close links with the Met Office which is now based in Exeter, including joint Professorships in Meteorology and Climate Change. Accreditation The single honours BSc and MMath Mathematics programmes are accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA). Choice We offer a range of three- and four-year degree programmes giving you the opportunity to follow a broadly-based course within the Mathematical Sciences, specialise in a particular area, or combine your study of mathematics with another subject. All the degree programmes offer you the chance to take electives in other subjects within the University if you wish. The wide range of options available within each programme, and the possibility of transfer between programmes at various stages, allows flexibility to choose a pathway through your degree that reflects your own interests and abilities. The 4-year MMath programme includes the opportunity to spend a semester abroad studying in the US, Canada, New Zealand or Australia during your third year. "The semester abroad is an opportunity to explore another country and broaden your mind without taking time away from studying. It is open to MMath students and you spend your time abroad during your third year. I studied at Montana State University where there are many interesting module options, including some which you might not find at Exeter. Core teaching is similar, although you are more likely to find yourself in a classroom environment rather than a lecture theatre so be prepared to contribute! As well as studying I had the opportunity to travel with friends at the weekends to other parts of the US. It was excellent that I had the opportunity to go and live in another country, and Exeter was really helpful with planning things like visas and checking I was doing OK. I'm now applying for jobs that involve travel and my experience in Montana will look great on my CV to show that I'm accustomed to living abroad. I'd definitely recommend studying abroad to anyone who gets the chance!” Victoria Crockett, final year MMath student
